  • It's that time of year again and my dear friend Marion Bockelmann aka Bockel24 has invited me to participate once again in her Annual ATC Swap. The theme this year is Bird People and for my cut and paste ATC's I used Mainly Images from Tumblefish Studio. I had great fun making these and I hope the recipients enjoy them as much as I have in making them.

HDH Macabre Monday # 187 Working In The Lab Late One Night

Today's new challenge theme is
"Working in the lab, late one night".
Basically, we'd like to see your interpretation of a
mad scientist's lab, his creations, experiments, rats, beakers, etc..
Or maybe even your own experimentation. Be creative!

For my project I decided to create a book from scratch with the theme being Frankenstein's monster which was created in the lab late one night by Baron Victor Frankenstein.  So here is what I came up with.

FRONT & BACK COVERS.
Once the book was constructed the front and back covers were created by embossing some 300gsm black cardstock ( this weight needed for all the paint techniques that will be applied ) and then treated with lots of DecoArt paint using techniques learnt in Andy Skinners Timeworn Techniques online class.

                                                       INSIDE FRONT COVER.

The same treatment as the front and back covers was also added to part of the inside front cover. Images were collected and manipulated in photoshop for the correct dimensions for the book. Printed and then hanbound to the front and back covers. with a few blank pages to make extra notes.

                                                          HAND BOUND PAGES.

For the back cover a nich was created to hold a mixed media board. Created using more DecoArt paints for the background base. Then an image transfer applied which was created in photoshop. The whole board was the sealed with DecoArt triple thick gloss glaze which is self levelling to protect the board.
SPARE PAGES AND MIXED MEDIA BOARD.

CLOSE UP OF MIXED MEDIA BOARD.

An enjoyable project as I love making books from scratch. Hope you will join us over at Haunted Design House for another great challenge theme. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read.

HDH Macabre Monday #186 Steampunk Junk.

Welcome back to another exciting Macabre Monday challenge!!
The new challenge theme is
StEaMpUnK JuNk
That's right, it's time to gather up those bits and bobs, odd and ends, and
make something Steampunk-y with them!
That's why there are metallic paints, right?
The idea is to reuse, or up-cycle something(s) in your junk drawer,
or something destined for the trash bin.
Make it into a Steampunk inspired project.
Got it?

I decided to create a tealight holder for the current theme.and to steampunkify it to fit in with the current challenge using techniques learnt on Andy Skinners Timeworn Techniques Class. I gathered up my supplies of chipboard and lots of lovely DecoArt Acrylic paints and mediums.

SUPPLIES.

First I cut a large tag and circle from the chipboard. The circle was then cut in half and glued together to give a sturdy base to attach the tag. The tag was then given the grunged up treatment with DecoArt Acrylic Paints to give the impression of worn metal. Chipboard gears were then cut using a tim holtz die and aged to look like worn brass, then attached to the tag. A skull was then cut from chipboard on my new Brother Scan N cut machine as well as the Top Hat, which was then cut in half. After a treatment of paint on the skull a gear was added strategically over one of the eye sockets and then the skull attached to the tag along with the now decorated Top Hat. The tag was then attached to the base using strong glue ( E6000 ). A coat of DecoArt Matte spray sealer was then added to protect the paintwork. A wrought iron fence was then cut using the Bother Scan N Cut and attached around the perimeter to form an enclosure.  DecoArt Texture sand was then applied to a battery operated tea light bought from the pound shop a bargain at three for a quid. Once dry it was then grunged up with more DeoArt Acrylic Paint. To finish off two apothecary bottles were aged and an antique label applied ( created in photoshop ) and placed either side of the tea light. Quite pleased how this project turned out. Over the next two weeks we want to see your Steampunk Junk Inspired creations. So head on over to Haunted Design House and join in the fun. I'd sure like to see you over there.

                                                                  Finished Project.

                                                                 Close Up.
